Mammootty to launch environment hygiene campaign

Malayalam superstar Mammootty is set to launch a campaign to spread the message of environmental hygiene in Kerala.

Mammootty, 58, said in an exclusive chat that people of the state maintain personal hygiene, but they do not keep their surroundings hygienic.

“This is a real dangerous situation. It is high time that the message goes out strongly to the people that time is running out and we just can’t leave our surroundings unhygienic,” he said.

Mammootty, Mohanlal bag Asianet film awards

Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal reigned supreme at the popular Ujala-Asianet Malayalam film awards 2009 announced here Sunday. While Mammootty bagged the ’Millennium actor award’, Mohanlal was named best actor for his role in “Ividam Swargamanu”.

Mammootty had more reason to cheer as his blockbuster movie “Pazhassi Raja” was adjudged as the best film. Renjith was named best director for “Paleri Manickam”, which also stars Mamootty.

Thousands bid farewell to Kannada superstar Vishnuvardhan

Thousands of people bade a tearful farewell late Wednesday to Kannada film superstar Vishnuvardhan who died early in the morning following a heart attack.

The 60-year-old actor, who brilliantly essayed varied roles - an angry young man to venerable family head, was given a state funeral, attended by family members, political leaders, film personalities and tens of thousands of fans.

With eight films in 2009, Mammootty’s on a roll

Malayalam superstar Mammootty pleased all his fans with as many as eight of his films releasing in 2009 but the actor says he was just doing his job.

Pro-Telangana activists attack producer’s office

Pro-Telangana activists Sunday attacked the office of Geeta Arts, a production firm owned by well-known film producer Allu Arvind, who is also the general secretary of K. Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party (PRP).

Raising slogans of “Jai Telangana”, a group of protesters attacked the office at the posh Jubilee Hills and hoisted a banner of ’Telangana Youth Joint Action Committee’ on it.

Police reached the scene and arrested the protesters.

The latest attack has heightened security concerns in the film industry, dominated by coastal Andhra region. …

Mammootty takes day off as Kerala celebrates Eid

100_1.gifAs Muslims offered prayers in large numbers at mosques dotting towns and cities in Kerala Monday, superstar Mammootty too joined in the Eid festivities by praying at an Eidgah in Kochi on his rare off-day.

Dressed in a white dhoti and shirt and sporting the traditional Muslim cap, the actor arrived at a prayer ground in Kochi and sat through the morning prayers.

Mammootty to have quiet 56th birthday

105.gifVeteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty plans to celebrate his 56th birthday Monday in a quiet way and says he has made no resolutions for the occasion either.

Speaking to IANS over telephone from Chennai, the actor said he prefers to have a quiet birthday.

“I have no birthday resolutions either. I am waiting for my son to arrive from Kochi and my daughter who is in Bangalore is not coming,” said Mammootty.

Mohanlal to join Territorial Army Thursday

190_.jpgMalayalam superstar Mohanlal will be commissioned into the Territorial Army Thursday by army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor in the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Speaking to IANS over telephone from Delhi, Mohanlal said: “I am certainly happy and am looking forward to it.”

The 49-year-old actor had in October said that he was interested in joining the Territorial Army. Rules had to be amended to accommodate the national award winning actor as men above the age of 42 are not eligible to join the volunteer force.
