Sachin Tendulkar fires record 200 against South Africa

Sachin Tendulkar created history with the first double century in one-day internationals as India thrashed South Africa by 153 runs in Gwalior.

The 36-year-old hit 25 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 200 off 147 balls.

It passed the previous best of 194, set by Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar in 1997 and Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry last year.

Mahendra Dhoni hit four sixes in 68 from 35 balls in a mammoth 401-3, and South Africa were 248 all out as India took an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

Australia’s cricket captain Ricky Ponting and his team may be able to repair the country’s reputation as a safe place for Indian students, a senate hearing has been told.

Australian Noffke mulls joining IPL, ICL

Melbourne, After being left out for the India tour, Australian medium pacer Ashley Noffke is peeved with the selectors and is contemplating to join the T20 Indian Premier league (IPL) or even the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

The 31-year-old Noffke had an outstanding 2007-08 season for Queensland. He topped the Australian first-class wicket-takers list with 51 wickets and scored 741 runs at 46.31. Karachi, Pakistan’s prolific Test scorer Mohammad Yousuf has accused the selectors of leaving him out of the list of probables for a Twenty20 tournament in Canada because of “personal dislike” and not on the basis of his form.

Karachi, Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan hopes that the new office-bearers of the Pakistan Cricket Board will lift the ban on players playing in the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Moin, who is coach of Lahore Badshahs, the only Pakistani team to play in the ICL, said the players have every right to earn their livelihood.

Beijing, An Asian member of the London assembly has launched an online petition to persuade sporting authorities to include an international 20-over cricket competition as part of the 2012 Olympic Games in the British capital.

Cricket enthusiast Murad Qureshi’s petition aims to lobby the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Cricket Conference (ICC) and London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG).
