Pakistan have had an injury scare involving their captain Shahid Afridi on the second day of the tour game against Kent. Afridi, clutching his back on the way to the dressing room at lunch, has what he said is a side strain and will visit a clinic tomorrow morning to ascertain the full extent of the injury.

Demand for diesel cars — that has been on the rise for the last a few years — may dip as government is increasing price of the fuel, bringing it closer to petrol.
Officials from top car companies said the ’attractive’ price differential between petrol and diesel was the key reason behind the rising preference for diesel vehicles. “Lowering of the pricing gap could blunt this advantage, pushing the deal favourably towards petrol-driven cars that are also around 10-15% cheaper than diesel variants.”

In the wake of Home Ministerial talks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday pinned “some hope” on developing peaceful ties with Pakistan but made it clear that while moving to develop trust, India would “verify” how anti-India terror groups are dealt with.

As he prepares to meet External Affairs Minister S M Krishna next month, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said ’nothing dramatic’ should be expected from “one sitting” and emphasised that the dialogue process should be made “irreversible”.
Qureshi, who along with Krishna has been tasked to bridge the trust deficit, said mutual suspicions were the main reason for the trust gap and the two countries should work to remove those.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex tanked over 160 points in opening trade on major sell-off by funds and retail investors amid slumping global markets.
The 30-share index, which had lost over 240 points in the previous session, plunged by 160.31 points, or 0.91 per cent, to 17,373.78 points.
All the sectoral indices, led by metal and realty, were trading in the negative territory with losses up to 2.74 per cent.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty dipped by 46.15 points, or 0.87 per cent, to 5,210.00.

Sri Lanka has imposed a temporary ban on its cricketers playing in foreign leagues to help it select a squad for next year’s World Cup, an official said.
Brian Thomas, Sri Lanka Cricket media manager, said the ban affected 76 players, who are set to be sent away to a camp so they can be assessed by national selectors.
“All contracted players have been told not to take part in any overseas leagues,” Thomas said yesterday.
