de Villiers narrows gap with Dhoni in ODI batsmen rankings

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has retained his top spot in the ICC ODI rankings but is closely followed by South African AB de Villiers who has narrowed the gap with the Indian captain to just two points.

Dhoni has 807 rating points, while de Villiers 805 in the latest ICC chart released on Tuesday.

de Villiers rose to the second position after a successful five-match away series against the West Indies where he accumulated 283 runs at an average of 56.33.

Aamir says no to political use of song on price rise

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has said that would not let political parties use the song Mahangai Dayan from his forthcoming film Peepli Live that takes a dig at the Government over inflation.

“We will not lend the song to anyone for political use.

This song is part of the story of the film and it will not be used in any kind of political campaign,” Aamir told reporters here on the sidelines of music launch of the film.

Sensex opens 181 pts up on strong global cues

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 181 points in the opening trade on Wednesday, tracking a firm trend in overseas markets.

The 30-share index, which gained nearly 515 points in the previous four sessions, added another 181.32 points, or 1 per cent to 18,167.22 points, a level last seen in February 2008.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty surged 52.80 points, or 0.97 per cent, to 5,453.45 points.

Satyam won’t get fined in US

Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said there is no cause for worry about the possibility of US market regulator SEC slapping a penalty on Mahindra Satyam, related to the multi-crore fraud at the erstwhile Satyam Computer.

“There is no formal communication (about SEC penalty on Mahindra Satyam) in this regard. What I have gathered informally is that there is no cause for worry,” Khurshid told reporters here.

Pak in touch with India regarding Mumbai attack suspects

Pakistan is in contact with India to address certain technical issues related to the trial of seven suspects linked to the Mumbai attacks, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Wednesday.

Malik made the remarks while talking to journalists after meeting Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal.

Malik said there are “some technical problems regarding the Mumbai attacks case” and a dialogue process is going on to remove these problems.
