Bombay HC asks Modi to appear before BCCI panel

The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s petition against the BCCI and asked him to appear before the board’s disciplinary committee.

The court said it was not proper to interfere at this stage into the disciplinary committee’s process. It said the issue of fairness of the probe should be left to members of the three-member disciplinary committee.

Modi had gone to court challenging the setting up of the committee and asked for an independent and mutually agreed upon inquiry panel. But he will now have to present himself before the …

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamer’s four-wicket haul in the first innings at Lord’s has led pace legend Wasim Akram  to comment that Aamer “is much cleverer than I was at 18″. Aamer, a left-arm seamer like Akram has impressed since he burst on the Test scene in 2009 leading to comparisons between the two. Reach out to villages via new technologies: FM to banks

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today asked banks to adopt new technologies, such as mobile banking and telephony, to reach out to the rural population and make economic growth inclusive and sustainable.

Sensex sheds 29 pts as funds re-adjust

The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 29 points today in choppy trade as funds booked profits in the wake of the recent rally and shifted their investments to other stocks available at cheaper rates.

The 30-share index, which fell from a two-and-a-half-year high in the previous session, declined further by 28.70 points to 17,909.46 in today’s trade. During the day, the gauge moved between a range from 17,978.56 to 17,868.73 points.

CII proposes role of pvt sector in Naxal hit states

The national council of CII proposes to set up a committee to explore the possibility of the private sector playing a socially relevant role in Naxal-infested states in the country.

The committee, which is expected to be set up tomorrow at the national council meeting here, would deliberate on how the private sector could participate in the upliftment of areas which have seen Naxal activity, Chandrajit Baneerjee, Director General, CII told reporters today.

India, Pakistan decide to remain engaged

After three rounds of discussions through the day between the Foreign Ministers on Thursday, India and Pakistan were unable to find a meeting ground on most of the irritants in bilateral relations but decided to remain engaged nonetheless.

Though Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi described the prolonged engagement as “useful” and his Indian counterpart saw it as “constructive,” the inability to break new ground was evident at the joint press conference they addressed late in the evening.
